A great-grandma and her twin sister! – Linwood Family Photographer

You’ve seen G and her girls on the blog before. I am so pleased to have been chosen as her family photographer again and to meet more of her family! This time, I was photographing the three girls with their great-grandmother. Great-grandma is also an identical twin and so I was able to photograph the two sisters together as well! I loved it! What a lovely opportunity.

It was a fun session and I was glad to see the girls again. I loved seeing how big baby G is getting already! I just love her smile and chubby cheeks! Time flies though. It seems like I was just doing her newborn session and now, here she is, 6 months old already.

We did the session at great-grandma’s house in Linwood, Michigan. She has a beautiful big window at the front of the house, making the living room perfect for a portrait session!

It’s like magic! But not really. But kinda!

I’m excited! This weekend I should have a radio ad running on WIOG! Yay! Recently, I met with the guy who is going to make that happen and we worked out the details of what I want to include.

I had been to the building where they’re located, but it had been a looooong time. So it was On-Star to the rescue again! I just can’t get over how fast and easy it is. You just push the button, let them know where you’re trying to go, and before you know it, the directions are there and you’re off!

Happy Birthday Mikale!

Mikale with Flux Capacitor Cake

Mikale’s birthday party was last weekend. I was in charge of getting his cake from my friend Heather and transporting it to the party. Eep! So much pressure! I was all worried that it would slide around in the trunk and something would smush something. Or something. I don’t know! I just didn’t want to mess up the cake. Especially since it was so cool!

Mikale is really in to Back to the Future and so our mother had a Flux Capacitor cake made for him. And it turned out really well! So neat looking!

I drove as carefully as a person can. I was still nervous because you never know what to expect with the roads in the spring. They tend to be at their bumpiest this time of year. So I was really glad that the Cruze is so smooth. Bud I’d hardly know I was driving on spring roads. Woo hoo! That, combined with my extra careful driving, meant that the Flux Capacitor cake arrived without any smushing at all. (But note my super nervous voice when I was still a little unsure about how it all went! ha!)

And Mikale loved the cake! Of course. How could he not?? Such a cool idea! We didn’t even want to cut it. But, alas, we could only look at it for so long, as there were lots of children who were much more ready to eat cake than admire it! NOMNOMNOM! 🙂

Easter Egg Hunt!

I had a lot of fun hiding eggs in the Cruze and Mikale had a lot of fun searching for them. Also, he really amuses me.

I had already gotten a ton of videos when my video camera died. So sad! And now it’s holding all those great videos hostage in it’s little dead body. Grrrr. I managed to get some new videos taken, but you are missing out on Mikale saying some amusing things. Fortunately, you get to see Mikale say new amusing things.

There are more places to put eggs in the Cruze than one might think and it was neat to explore the whole car looking for them.

Many videos, be amused:

Adventure? Well, not exactly! – Mid-Michigan Chevy Girls

Tuesday, I picked up my girl Sarah and dragged her to Frankenmuth for dinner and adventure! We did really well with the dinner part. NOMNOMNOM. We went to the Frankenmuth Brewery and had delicious food, and then tried a dessert that sounded so intriguing – doughnut-batter dipped, deep fried oreos. Every bit as sickeningly delightful as it sounds.

Out in the parking lot, I messed with some more buttons inside the Cruze and finally figured out how to check what kind of mileage I’ve been getting. I, of course, could have looked in the manual at any time and found it pretty quickly. But I’m always wondering things while I’m driving and then forget to mess with it by the time I’m not.

We took a little walk afterward and looked for something to amuse ourselves. Sadly, Frankenmuth closes pretty early at night during the week and we were not successful.

I did get a souvenir penny though! I have collected quite a few of them over the years from various places. Whenever I see one the the machines I feel the need to feed 51 cents in and smash a poor penny flat. I was excited that I had a nice new penny for the cause. They look better. (Shiny!)

Once we determined that everything was pretty much closed, we decided to head to Birch Run instead and catch a movie. We saw Hanna. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it. It was a good night and I had fun!

Hello Tiny Little Guy! – Saginaw Newborn Photographer

Every newborn session is different. Some babies are sleepy, some want to stay awake, some don’t mind curling up, some want to stretch and wave. Baby J, at only a few days old, already had some pretty strong opinions. He was willing to be all curly, but only his way. And only if he got to keep his pacifier. We did get some without it, but I think he looks adorable holding it there with his tiny hand.

I love to get images of baby alone, but I also love it when I can get some with mom and dad interacting as well. Baby J got a little grumpy when he felt dad’s stubble on his cheek, but like the tiny hand holding the pacifier, it was super cute!

So glad I got to meet you, T family!

Who says you need to be awake to learn things? – Mid-Michigan Chevy Girls

Still sleepy from my late night the night before, I dragged myself out of bed bright and early to head to a marketing class. I didn’t want to at the time, because I REALLY wanted to catch a couple more hours of sleep. I’m so glad I did though. I absorbed some new ideas, and the group I was with really meshed well and worked well together. I like how the class material is probably the same from group to group, but that each session could turn out differently because every person in the group brought their own unique perspective and experiences to the discussion. I prefer this kind of setting these days to the traditional class model that I’m used to where the teacher talk talk talks and the students write write write.

Post class, I headed out to spend the rest of the lovely day at grandma’s. My mother and baby (ha! he’s almost 10. TEN! How does that even happen???) brother also came out. Baby brother Mikale had a cool science project to work on. It involved eggs. And packing material. And dropping said eggs from a high place. I took photos of the results for them.

Mikale's egg project

By the time I left, it was dark out and usually that bugs me more. I don’t like driving at night. I feel like I can’t see anything properly. But! The headlights on the Cruze are awesome and have a really far reach. So much less stressful for me! And my neighborhood is full of bunnies so I don’t have to be worried about not being able to see them either! The bunnies don’t know that they’re thankful, but they totally are. You’re welcome, bunnies!

Phunk Shway – Saginaw Band Photographer

I was lucky enough to get a call to do some last minute promotional photos for the band Phunk Shway.

They braved the cold with me while we went in search of great light, color, and texture. We found plenty of all three in Old Town Saginaw, always one of my favorite areas to shoot in.

The guys were super great to work with. Lots of energy and fun! And they were very tolerant of me making them tromp through the snow looking for the good spots! I’m glad, because all the tromping paid off in the end!

You can find Phunk Shway online at phunkshway.com and on Facebook!

Why, Michigan, why??? – Mid-Michigan Chevy Girls

So it snowed on Monday. It’s April. This just shouldn’t happen! Stupid Michigan weather. At some points, it wasn’t so much snowing as it was slushing. Bleah. And I had places to go! So I really hoped that the Cruze would handle well on yucky roads. It passed the test! It even alerted me that the roads might be icy and to be careful. (Aww, thanks Cruze!)

04/03/11 snow

It was great on the road and, as a result, I was able to go out to lunch with a friend, and out for some shopping afterward and the only cursing I had to do was at the yuckiness falling from the sky! The restaurant almost always has a packed parking lot, which stresses me out. Backing up is especially bad because there just never feels like there is enough room to maneuver. The Cruze has sensors in the back that will alert you with beeping if you start to get too close to something! Helpful! It definitely helped with parking lot stress. (See the video below, I recorded a demo later when I wasn’t actually stressed out about backing up. A much better time to do it!)

Later in the day, I went to pick up my grandma to bring her back to my house for a private screening of Killing Kevin. She’s been waiting impatiently for it to be done because she supplied one of the props and she wanted to see it in action. I found her a couple of XM Radio stations that play Classical music so she was happy. Speaking of the XM Radio. There are so many stations! All different kinds of music, plus some talk radio (not my thing, but hey, if you’re into it, it’s there!) So far I’ve been happiest that there’s a 90’s station. Yay!
